A quiet crackling, floating clouds of sound, pulsating basses, a distorted guitar like a scream: the music of The Interstring Project is a one-of-a-kind sonic experience.

The four musicians from the Black Forest (Germany) have developed their own sound language of Ambient, Noise, and Progressive Rock. With various types of guitars, effect pedals, cello bows, cordless screwdrivers, objects from flea markets, field recordings, live electronics and more they constantly explore the limits of their instrumentation.

In their concert programs, they combine original compositions, free improvisation and new works by young composers. They place great importance on the staging of their performances and develop refined concepts for lighting, live visuals or sound spatialisation.

The ensemble has premiered works by renowned composers such as Henry Fourès and Sarah Nemtsov, and has collaborated with international partner institutions such as IRCAM Paris and ZKM Karlsruhe. Performances have taken them to Berlin (Hamburger Bahnhof), Hamburg (Kampnagel), Paris (Nouveau Théâtre de Montreuil), and Basel (Gare du Nord), among others. The Interstring Project was supported and funded by the German Music Council’s InSzene program.
